podcast #1_elements of design

What does it take to create good graphic design?
You need the elements and priciples of graphic design

What is the difference between elements and principles?

Elements- compnents of parts which you can be isolated in any visual design
Principles-tell us how we should organize the elements on a page of screen

Name the six (6) elements of design
Line, shape or form, space, texture, value, and color

What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with  other lines or shapes?
They can aid in the readibility, apperance, and message of a design

Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
Horizontal, It’s a continous thing and you feel at rest because you know that it’s a straight line and it will never loose its figure

Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
Loftiness, I feel a division and a seeration of design on each side

What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
Diagonal, it does create a feeling of movement because its going in a odd direction than were used to like vertical lines

Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
Curved, it creates a soft and shallow shape because there is a curve that brings you in

These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
Deep acute curves, I think that it creates a wieerd feeling how uneven it is

What element defines a specific area of space?
Shapes or form

What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
Two-width and height
three-dept and width and height

Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?

Geo-structure are often symmetrical
organic-found in nature where they can be man-made irregular and fluid

What are abstract shapes?
Syled lines or oversimplified versions of natural shapes

Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
Square, circle, stars, and rectangles

What do triangles suggest?
Conflict or strength and action

Circles convey feelings of what?
Equality, calm, and content

Describe positive space and negative space?
The negative space is defined by the edges of the positive space and the frame or boarder

What is texture?
Texture is used to make you feel as if you can touch or feel the image and it does that by making it have depth, shading, and two-toned coloring, etc.

Incorporating texture into a design can help do what?
Create depth and 3-D feel

What is value?
Value is created by using space to give the image a significance

What is another name for value?
Importance

What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
It creates more value and it makes the image more appealing
